A secret that could destroy their lives The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan
Nick and his brother, Alan, have spent their lives on the run from magic. Their father was murdered, and their mother was driven mad by magicians and the demons who give them power. The magicians are hunting the Ryves family for a charm that Nick's mother stole -- a charm that keeps her alive -- and they want it badly enough to kill again.
Danger draws even closer when a brother and sister come to the Ryves family for help. The boy wears a demon's mark, a sign of death that almost nothing can erase...and when Alan also gets marked by a demon, Nick is desperate to save him. The only way to do that is to kill one of the magicians they have been hiding from for so long.
Ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse, Nick starts to suspect that his brother is telling him lie after lie about their past. As the magicians' Circle closes in on their family, Nick uncovers the secret that could destroy them all.
First Impression: I was excited to read this book because the cover had a review by Scott Westerfeld and in the back it had Cassandra Clare. Two amazing authors I adore. I checked the book out and read it. For some reason I like reading anything that's under Supernatural so I was glad I picked it up and read it! The cover won me over as well. I was too fond of the guy in the cover. That also drew me into reading the book.
Characters: Nick and Alan. Wow! Sarah knows how to use her characters well. I personally like Nick. He's the bad boy and the youngest. Sarah wrote Nick and Alan amazingly! As for the sidekicks of the story, Maia and Jamie. Maia with her pink hair and Jamie, just so childish yet a strong supporting character. I can't forget the magicians and demons. It was good to read a story with two brothers. Writing Style: The writing was amazing. Sarah knows how to draw in her characters. And you can't forget the amazing dialogue. Indeed, some parts I got confused. I had go back and re-read it to understand what was going on. I think that's do to Sarah being so into her story. Which is a good thing. I just wish she could've written more about Alan, the oldest brother.
Like/Dislike : I probably didn't have anything I disliked. Since Sarah drew me into the story since the beginning. Except how much annoying Jamie and Maia were at the beginning of the book.
Final Thouhgst: Oh, Nick! And I can't wait for the sequel, The Demon's Covenant.
Recommend: Yes, if only you're a fan of Scott Westerfeld and Cassandra Clare. Which I am!
Video: If you don't believe how amazing it is! Here's a video with Sarah Rees Brennan herself telling us a little something about the book.
"Just like your eyes. You're like a song that I heard when I was a little kid but forgot I knew until I heard it again"
