PostShiver by Maggie Stiefvater

The cold. The heat. The shiver.

Maggie Stiefvater

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human... until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

First Impressions:The very first time I saw this book at the store, I wasn't sure. I had picked it up, but didn't think I'd like it. Then I started reading about how much everyone loved it online and decided to get it. Now, I'm happy I did!
Setting:Liked the setting! I like woods and all that. I think it's great. Of course, you can't really have a wolf story without woods, but I still liked it.
Characters: The characters were great! Besides the fact that the name 'Grace' always pisses me off, I loved her character. I thought she had a bit of everything in her; the innocence, the toughness, the cuteness, the lovableness, etc. The other main character, Sam, was also great. I think he was my favorite character. The minor characters were also good. They all played their part in the story well.
Writing Style:First, it gets a bonus because it's told through both Sam and Grace's points of view. I love dual narratives, so that was great. Her style itself was nice to read. Everything flowed well and I was never confused (unless it was my own fault and I got distracted). She did a great job with the two characters as well; making them sound different. That's not an easy thing to do.
Cover: The cover is one of my favorite book covers. It wasn't the very first time I saw it, but once I got it, it's one that I can't stop looking at if it's around my other books. I'm glad it doesn't have people on it; I'm beginning to get tired of books like that.
Plot: While I enjoyed the story and the plot very much, there were still parts where I got kind of bored. Not very many, but there were a few places where I found my mind wandering off. However, once it got going in areas, I couldn't put it down. Ms. Stiefvater really put some great twists and turns that I never saw coming. Apart from those very small sections, I was on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what was going to happen next. She definitely left it to where I have to go get the next one, Linger, once it's out. I also thought there was a good balance with what was happening through Grace's eyes and what was happening through Sam's eyes. Maybe that should have went in 'Writing Style.' But anyhow, it made the book more enjoyable. I don't think it would have had the same effect if it was written in third person. Oh, and I also loved that the werewolves, weren't traditional werewolves. That was very creative!
Dislikes: Those very few areas where I got bored. doesn't take away from its awesomeness!
Final Thoughts: This was a great read! It's a book I would read again and I really be following the Wolves of Mercy Falls for as long as Ms. Steifvater writes them.

Recommend it? Yes, if you're into wolves (not the traditional werewolves) and a young romance.
