See the book trailer here.

Description:
Cassel comes from a family of curse workers — people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they're all mobsters, or con artists. Except for Cassel. He hasn't got the magic touch, so he's an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail — he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.

Ever since, Cassel has carefully built up a façade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his façade starts crumbling when he starts sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things, too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him, caught up in a mysterious plot. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he also wonders what really happened to Lila. Could she still be alive? To find that out, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.

Genre:
Fiction, Magic

My Review:
I love the storyline and the originality of this book. White Cat is definately a book to read. When I first had it in my hands I was a bit skeptical because the theatre I was waiting outside of was giving them to customers that had valid tickets to the midnight showing of Eclipse. I had three. I read the back cover then immediately started reading the first chapter while I waited for the movie. I was hooked. The dynamics of the characters is quite interesting and Cassel Sharpe is pretty much a normal teenage guy, minus the fact that he killed his childhood friend. His brothers, Barron and Philip, try to protect Cassel and Grandad is doing the same for the three boys. With their mother currently held up, the brothers have to work together to keep each other safe, except Cassel isn't a worker like the rest of his family.

I suggest White Cat to anyone in the 16+ age range due to some of what is said and done in the book but it's nothing terrible. If you like magic, suspense and trouble, this book is perfect.

Characters:
Cassel - A teenage guy who inadvertently finds trouble.
Lila - Cassel's, now dead, childhood friend.
Philip and Barron - Cassel's older brothers.
Anton - Philip's best friend and Lila's cousin.
Zacharov - Lila's father and head of the Mob.
Grandad - The Sharpe brother's grandfather.
Sam and Daneca - Cassel's friends from Wallingford.

My Rating:

5/5 Hoof prints

There is a difference between Beauty and True Beauty. Beauty is visual, vanity. True Beauty is felt, with the heart. It fills you in ways you never thought it would.
